RACE RESULTS AND STORIES

2021 Mid-Season UPDATE

We're half way through the 2021 NEMRR season and the results have been pretty good.  Three wins and three 2nd places in F60 show us first in the F60 championship by 11 points.  There's still lots of work to do. But we're in good shape  despite a couple mistakes.  At round #2 in NH I made a mistake in traffic which cost us the win.  And in NJ a missed shift cost us the victory there.   August 1st I got Elsa, our KTM, back into the 17's and showed consistent 18's on Sunday.  So it's time to put the hammer down and finish the season strong.

In LWSS we are currently 4th overall!  A pleasant and happy surprise.  This class is on our schedule for the challenge of going against some younger and incredibly talented competition.  Bill Cool, Steve Heider, and Nick Leighton are clearly the class of this field.  I'll keep pushing and trying to keep them in sight each race.

F50 Lights has us in 3rd overall!  There's been some good racing luck at play here.  Now that the season is settling in we have a realistic shot here.  If we can hold on to a podium overall here it'll be a great and unexpected result.

2021 F60 Champs!

With 3 events to go August was a crucial weekend for the championship.  The final race weekend in October will be a double points event.  This means without a good cushion in the points, anything could happen on the last day.  We went out and rana a good race making the pass for the lead with 3 laps to go to take the win and increase our lead to 17 points.

In September the weather played into the formula.  As we were sent off for the warm up lap there was a mist in the air.  Not rain but, it could affect traction if it turned into a drizzle.  I got a great start and just put my head down focusing on tire traction.  Just after halfway the rain began in earnest causing a couple Amateur riders to go down.  This brought out the red flag giving us the win in a shortened race.  With a now 23 point lead headed into the last race in October we're in the drivers seat.  But, anything can happen in racing.  There'll be some sleepless nights ahead...

I was truly determined to put a stamp on the championship by winning the final race.  We only needed a 3rd place to cement the crown.  But, I wasn't going to play it too safe.  I got the holeshot into turn 1 and with John Grush close, as always, kept pushing until I saw the checkers.  An emotional moment felt all the more deeply when I rode through turn 6 on the cool down lap.  I took a moment to raise a #1 and a prayer to my friend Scooter as I rode through.

Other races in October we finished 3rd in F50 nailing down the final podium spot at the banquet in this class.  And my 5th place in LWSS found us 4th overall for the 2021 season against the youngsters.

Thank you to everyone who made this season a success.  See you in 2022!

LRRS/NEMRR  2020:

2020 was a pretty good year!  Due to personal commitments we would not be available to run every weekend in 2020.  So. our focus was on learning the KTM 790 and improving each weekend. And we more than accomplished that goal seeing steady progress leading to winning the final race of the season and finishing 2nd overall in the Formula 60 Championship!  Formula 50 Lights saw 3 podium finishes and a 4th place overall for the season!  We also podiumed against the young guns in Lightweight SuperBike in August, and in Lightweight SuperSport in October!  Other top Championship results were in Lightweight SuperSport, 6th.  And in Lightweight Superbike, 5th overall.

NEMRR 2021

First off, LRRS is now fully NEMRR, North East Motorcycle Road Racing!  This will mean some adjustments.  Changes surely for the better as we'll be more like the club racing atmosphere from years ago!  BIG thanks to John Grush and Eric Wood for stepping up and making this a reality.

2021 holds much promise after an educational 2020.  We'll again be focusing on Formula 60 and Formula 50 this year. For our 3rd class this season, we'll also run Lightweight SuperSport just to keep the young ones honest!  But, we may also switch things up as the schedule permits.  Formula 40 Lights and Lightweight SuperBike may be on the radar as well!

News on the Penguin School front is that I will continue as lead instructor for the Track Experience group for 2021.  I'm excited for the honored opportunity to serve Eric and the Penguin Road Racing School in this role.  Don't worry though.  I'll still be able to get out there and give you my best efforts with your on track instruction too!

Millie will receive only a few tweaks for 2021. Standard maintenance stuff like fluid changes and brake maintenance.  The KTM 790 Duke,  primary bike, will be ready to go as well.  We expect to be very competitive this year for sure!

Check out our Facebook page for more updates as the season progresses. And we hope to see you at the track in 2021!

What's in a Name???

The motorcycling bug bit me hard as a youngster growing up in Reading, Massachusetts.  A neighbor had a mini bike and he was kind enough to share a ride now and again with me.  This meant my parents went a bit crazy listening to my incessant begging for a ride of my own.  Dad was overtly against the idea for safety reasons.  But, Mom recognized my unwavering passion and dug into her own pocketbook to buy me a used Honda 50!  Telling (lying to!) Dad it was to be hers, she made me promise I would be home and the bike put away before Dad was home from work each night.  Dear old Dad finally did catch on to our scheme.  Happily for me, and after a serious talking to about safety, I was allowed to ride at our summer cottage in Gilmanton NH.  Little did I know we were just 10 minutes from what was then Bryar Motorsports Park.  Prophetic maybe?

I bought my first real dirt bike as a 16 year old when my parents went away on vacation. They were leaving me home alone due to my part time job.  "What could go wrong" they said, as they drove off to Wisconsin... Right??  I  immediately took every penny I could scrounge and bought a leftover Honda XL125 and a helmet!  Needless to say, upon their return, the folks had very different reactions to my little development.  Mom excitedly wanted a ride!  And Dad wanted to kill me before the bike did!  After that, I spent a lot of time riding with friends and when I moved out on my own at 18, motorcycling became one of my very favorite activities.

I discovered road racing at an AAMRR event in 1981.  With very little cajoling, my best riding buddies R. Guy and Guy Hoefer, (Big Guy and Little Guy) convinced me we had to go road racing.  Little Guy (6 feet tall and 235 pounds) however, was not content to just "go racing".  He was obsessed with "Pummelling The Competition"!  So, when discussing a team name, it wasn't a big stretch to decide to name our fledgling endeavor PTC Racing.

Sadly, life events prevented us from joining the ranks of AAMRR and I wasn't able to fully commit to racing until 1994.  But, when the time came to put knees to pavement, I just had to resurrect the name.  So, It is with great pride that I carry on the PTC Racing moniker out of true respect and much love for the friends who believed in me all those years ago.
